230 to 168

The most interesting part about running for office is the fact that I'm the only person in the race for the fourth district who works the graveyard shift at night.  Monday and Tuesday nights are like Saturday and Sunday for me.  On August 6, 2012, I started out my "weekend" by taking a nap and starting laundry.  I also hung up some fliers encouraging voters to choose me instead of the other guy at the primary.  For some reason, I didn't get a lot of sleep that night.

I woke up after 5 AM on Tuesday morning.  I arrived at my polling place shortly after it opened in order to vote for myself.  I spent the rest of the day playing the waiting game.  When the polls finally closed, I ran to my computer and kept watching the Johnson County Courthouse website as well as the Secretary of State's website.  The servers on both sites were begging for mercy.

After nearly an entire summer has passed, I would soon know what I would have to do next.  My life's future direction was about to be determined.

230 to 168.

Ladies and gentleman, it turns out that I do in fact have a future in politics.  To my family and friends, thank you for supporting me.  To those who voted for me, thank you.  I am forever grateful that you got me to this point.  I will now be facing Greg Cowan, Teresa Hensley, and Vicky Hartzler in November.  Needless to say, I have a lot of work ahead of me.

The next step will be helping the Missouri Libertarian Party at the State Fair.  I know I'll meet some wonderful people in Sedalia and introduce them to a better choice in politics.  After all, our nation's capital is broken.  Presidential candidate Gary Johnson was spot on when he said that we need to get control of this ship before we all go down with it.

Day of Memory

When it comes to politics, the talk can become negative very quickly. That is why I am choosing today to kickstart this campaign. The interview on Ron Paul Radio was only a warm up session.

Today is one of profound importance, no matter what one's political philosphy or party happens to be. In the United States, Memorial Day is a holiday in which members of our armed forces are recognized and remembered for the sacrifices that they have made for the nation. Many have fallen in the wars and conflicts.

Did you know that a member of the military is considered the property of the Federal Government? Did you know that they may be experimented upon at any time without their knowledge or consent? They are also not allowed to have a political opinion. When they say they're sacrificing for the country, they mean it.

While I have not served myself, my family has a rich history of military service. My grandpa on my mom's side served in the Navy. My dad served in the Air Force. My uncle Ed on my mom's side served in Vietnam. No matter what branch they were in, they made sacrifices and were changed forever. For better or for worse. Many of us on all parts of the political spectrum tend to forget that.

So today I am simply saying thank you to all members of the armed forces who have served and continued to serve, whether dead, alive, or missing in action. Thank you for all that you do.

The Hat is Back in the Ring.

I never thought I would be doing this again.  It's been argued to me before that I should stay out of the limelight.  After all, everybody else can handle it.  They're the professionals.  The truth of the matter is that the rebel inside of me won't allow for me to stay out of the political arena.  While others may contemplate moving to other countries, I decided to stay here and fight the good fight.

The year is 2012, and I am throwing my hat back into the ring.

I am running for the 4th Congressional District of Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Libertarian.  I'm an everyday person who graduated college last year.  The person I'm running against in the primary happens to be a convicted felon (more on that later).  For now, the platform I have chosen is one that makes the most sense.

  • Freedom: Opposing the Patriot Act, SOPA, PIPA, CISPA, and other forms of legislation and executive orders that violate the rights of the citizenry.
  • Economy: Advocating for the Federal Reserve to be placed under complete Congressional oversight with 100% transparency.  Standing up for the farmers of the district by opposing any and all forms of mandatory animal tracking while standing up to the FDA in regards to raw milk consumption.  Fight to end all software patents and place that stuff back in copyright where it belongs.
  • Integrity: Opting out of any retirement or healthcare plans that are taken advantage of by others at the expense of the tax payers.  Voting no on any Congressional pay raise.  Following the Constitution to the letter.
That's all for now.  Feel free to follow this blog for updates.
